Some people would ask why many Rossington residents are objecting to an eco-town.
We do not have a problem with eco-friendly housing, although some ideas are questionable. We do have a problem with more housing being built around Rossington, when the present infrastructure and road system can only just cope now.
At present, th
e quotes of the 15,000 eco-friendly estate/town has reduced to 5000 for now, but that will still almost double the size of the village. This would mean 5,000+ more vehicles trying to leave and enter the village on one road in and out.
At certain times of the day, Bawtry Road, Sheepbridge Lane, Stripe Road, Station Road and West End Lane can barely cope with the present traffic flow. Then there is the "rat-running" when the level crossing gates are down, and drivers trying to avoid Parrots Corner traffic lights.
There are few local jobs available, so how can all these extra vehicles travelling to and from work, shopping, etc. be eco-friendly.
Rossington is geographically one of the worst places roadwise, and it would be wrong to build one of these experimental eco-towns here.
If the Rossington Parish Council village poll (Thursday 24/07/08 4pm to 9pm at ones usual polling station) shows a majority are against these developments, then I hope all of our elected Ward Councillors and MP's will work at supporting the people who voted them in.
