HAVING returned from a memorable trip to the Canadian Rockies, I could not believe the next step of Doncaster Council`s efforts to vandalise what was once a lovely town.
As I approached the new phase of the Bawtry Road bus corridor I could not believe the destruction of the avenue of trees between the Dome traffic lights and the race course traffic island.

First of all I am not a tree hugging naturalist, but I co
uld not feel anything but sadness to see such a loss to an attractive entrance to Doncaster.

Why such an act, when in this day and age we are trying to conserve any form of natural defences in environmental issues.

Trees benefit the world in carbon defences ,assistance in torrential rain absorbing and the solving of many more environmental problems.

So why does the DMBC contradict themselves in creating lanes for diesel fume pumping buses and then destroy natural defences in such ignorant ways?

Doncaster is fast becoming an undesirable place to live.

Most UK residents who travel from the UK to foreign climes dread the return home as they near their date of return to work. Being retired this does not affect me personally, however the depression sets in as I get near to Doncaster, fearing what `improvements` have been made.

Whilst in Alberta and British Columbia , not once did I see intrusive cameras speed traps or traffic wardens impersonating fascism.

Instead everyone obeyed the rules of the road and life.

Cyclists and pedestrians had priority and cars gave way all the time
The fines for littering involved fees of between 1,000 and 2,000 Canadian $ and not once did I see a piece of litter anywhere.

The air was pure in the cities due to FREE fare passenger trams and the majority of major produce going by train.

Since returning all I smell is diesel fumes from the local public transport.

As a side issue , why a bus lane I do not know. Why not , as in many towns , have green /red priority flow at peak times?.For example Bawtry Road, two lanes on green entering Doncaster in a morning and two lanes on green exiting at night? Simple!

I have lived in Doncaster all my life and have seen dramatic transformations, mainly adverse. I am now becoming quickly disillusioned with the way Doncaster, specifically, is heading.

I do hope the DMBC is planning a replanting of tree scheme?

Well said.
I also saw the loss of the trees with dismay.
"oh we will replant some trees".
Hmmm, probably like the little stunted ones around lakeside. Hardly a replacement for a large mature and lovely tree that has been felled to make way for the Great White Elephant that is a "quality" (don't make me laugh) bus corridor.

I also was dismayed at what is surely down right vandalism. The morons responsible should be named, shamed and hung out to dry.If a private contractor had done this all hell would break loose mainly lead by council officials. There surely was enough room to by pass the trees to make way for the quality bus lane ( and what a joke that is )the only thing that will get people back on buses is cheap fares and those days have surely gone. It proves one thing, the morons in charge of planning our network systems have scant regard for anything and thats not just the voters.MC is also right, we could have managed with priorty peak lanes morning and evening but it appears our so called mayor Winters is hell bent on doing his thing and this does not include listening to the electors of this town.

As a huge fan of Bawtry Road and the bus corridor in particular I was shocked and horrored at the diabolical work being done to it's appearance. Our lovely city is taking a beating lately with perception. We are portrayed as miserable and fat. Recent surveys confirm this awful reality. I counted all my friends in town and figured of my 79 closest friends only 17 are fat, 32 miserable and ONLY 9 are both. We have to start our mornings with smiles on our faces and be nice to each other and our trees. Eat less...walk more....help your neighbour...pick up litter....plant a tree....attend council meetings and offer a dose of reality.

Typical of the amatures that are running and working for this authority. This used to be a caring Council, run by elected members, who listened and wow betied if they didn't. Now we have one person running the show, importing none Doncaster people to run the Town. It is since this happened, that we have gone down hill. When we had the like of Mr Peter Greaves, Tom Keegan, local men who cared about the Town, who had the respect of the work force and gave insperation to all.
This is what the Town is short of, good leadership, instead of letting the lunatics loose, on hair brained schemes in our Town.
