DICK Whittington is set to turn again to Doncaster with his wonderful cat as the Civic Theatre knocks up 30 years not out with it's famous Christmas panto. The very best of festive fun for all the family will be on offer from Thursday 11 December to Sunday 4 January - and the stars of this year's show have already been warming up for their roles at a special Press photo call.

The much-loved panto, loosely based on the real life of Richard Whittington, is a colourful tale of a boy from a poor family, who, upon hearing that the streets are paved with gold, sets out for London to make his fortune.

Coun Patrick Wilson, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People said: "Christmas is all about enjoyment and celebrating with family, friends and loved ones.

"I always remember my first pantomime - Peter Pan at the Theatre Royal in Newcastle, it was a magical experience. I am sure that for everyone going to a Christmas pantomime brings back fond and happy memories, this year the Doncaster panto gives you a great opportunity to do just that."

The spectacular production stars Louis Emerick, best known for his role in Brookside and Last of the Summer Wine, as King Rat and ventriloquist Naughty Nigel Harvey returns by popular demand in the role of Alderman Fitzwarren.

Dick is played by local rising star and reigning Miss Doncaster, Annabel Jones with Harriet Payne as Alice - both from Doncaster's Rainbow Connection.

Comedy abounds with the ever-youthful Danny Jay as Sarah the Cook and the lovely Lizzie Frances as Fairy Bow Bells.

Local dancing talent in the form of the The Nellie Stagles Juveniles enhances this line-up along with recently auditioned members of the Rita Procter Teensteppers.

Early booking is recommended. Seats start from £7.50 or £6.50 for schools and OAP matinees so call the box office now on 01302 342349.
