ARE you a budding actor? Can you play a brass instrument? Would you like to take part in a stage production of the well-loved story of a Yorkshire colliery band?
Well, now could be your big chance to step into the limelight as Doncaster Little Theatre teams up with HotHouse Arts Festival for the stage version of classic Yorkshire movie.
The King Street theatre will be holding an audition for actors and musicians for a production of Brassed Off, to take place in March 2009 and anyone is welcome to visit on Sunday from 5pm for a chance to audition and to find out more!
Brassed Off tells the story of the proposed closure of Grimley Colliery, with 1,200 job losses and the demise of its brass band. But under the leadership of Danny, the band is somehow transformed into British champions with local lass Gloria whipping up the money needed to get them to the Albert Hall.
The play requires five men, aged 20s – 60s and four women, aged 20s – 50s. Being able to play a brass instrument isn't necessary, but would be an advantage! However, the character Gloria does have to play the Flugelhorn! The theatre is also looking for a local brass band or bands to take part.
The production is based on the hit 90s movie of the same name starring Ewan McGregor, Tara Fitzgerald and Pete Postlethwaite which won rave reviews at the box office.
The play will be staged at Doncaster Little Theatre from 14-21 March 2009 and will then tour to five former mining villages in Doncaster as part of the HotHouse Arts Festival. This follows on from a successful tour of 'The Glee Club', the story of an Edlington miners singing troupe, in 2006.
The theatre is also interested in collecting memories and memorabilia connected to the Miners' Strike. People are welcome to drop in to the Theatre for Doncaster Writers' Festival, from Monday 6th October and the rest of that week with interesting stories, memories or items that could be used as part of a display to accompany the play.
