IF you're looking for a little culture this weekend, why not head down to this year's Doncaster Cultural Festival?
The 2008 event promises to be bigger and better than previous years with a varied line-up expected from across the area. Among this year's attractions are jazz orchestras, choirs, drama groups, arts and a range of special one off events.
The festival organisers are celebrating the event's tenth anniversary this year and have boosted the programme to meet the demand.
This year, unique acts such as jugglers, film makers and unusual dancers will all be highlighting their talents over the course of the one-day festival.
To kick start the day, a range of local choirs throughout the borough will be showcasing Doncaster's musical varied and vast musical nature.
From the Quirky Choir to the more traditional Wheatsheaf Singers, the town's choral heritage will not be forgotten. Also among them will be the Cusworth Singers, the Embassy Gospel Choir, the Rainbow Connection Singers and the Thorne Male Voice Choir.
Each group is hoping to bring something new and exciting to the festival with various other organisations also planning performances throughout the day. BBC Radio Sheffield is planning to present footage of South Yorkshire on film while the Doncaster Movie Makers Camcorder Club will be presenting a variety of their films.
There will also be a range of children's activities happening throughout the event with mask making from theatre company The Rep and a 3D exhibition by the pupils at Town Field Primary School.The festival is also aiming to highlight many cultural groups within the town with several performances taking place to showcase their talents.
The Chinese Elders will be providing food on the day along with musical entertainment and a series of performances while the Indian Cultural Society is set to perform a Bollywood dance performance. Among the other dance performances will be the Hilltop Morris dancers who will be performing traditional dance, street and contemporary dance from Hall Cross School and a public participation dance from the Pan Afrique Centre.
lThe Doncaster Cultural Festival will take place on Sunday from 12.30 to 5.30pm at the Arts Park next to Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery and The Point. The event is free.
