ROLL up, roll up - Circus Starr is set to shine when the big top comes back to town tomorrow.
For the so-called "circus with a purpose" is back in Doncaster and for one night only, Sandall Park will come alive with thrills and spills as a dazzling cavalcade of performers showcase their skills in the ring.
And as well as keeping showgoers entertained, Circus Starr's annual trip to town will also be raising much needed funds for the town's St John's Hospice - the benefactors of the Free Press backed Scan For Life appeal which aims to raise £600,000 to buy a new state of the art scanner to help cancer patients at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
From the heart of British circus, the country's favourite touring family show is celebrating its 21st birthday season with a truly fantastic galaxy of big top stars.
Boasting more laughs per smile, the comedy doesn't come any funnier than in the presence of the hilarious Peter Sandow and Co.
His side-splitting antics involve a crazy car with a mind of its own, a frantic plate spinning routine in which a dozen china plates are precariously balanced on top of a slender rod and the brilliant Ghost Buster routine – involving every boy and girl (no matter how old!).
The skills don't come any more thrilling than with Duo Sysun, two of Eastern Europe's finest aerialists. An electrifying combination of perfect balance and synchronisation, artistic creativity and nerves of steel as they perform on the swinging trapeze.
The action doesn't come any faster than with the amazing Julio Acrobatic Troupe from the Bulgarian State Circus. Audiences will be on the edge of their seats with their high-adrenaline acrobatics. From springboard to Russian swing – they defy gravity in an amazing series of thrilling heart-stopping routines.
And with grace, skill and sheer beauty the international aerial artiste Tracy Jones will present her acclaimed Corde Lisse act high above the circus ring.
Circus Starr occupies a unique position in British circus by raising thousands of pounds for local charities from the advance sales of tickets to local businesses. The donations from those sales go towards specialised equipment for hospitals, hospices and other worthy causes and since taking to the road 20 years ago, Circus Starr is proud to have raised more than £1 million for local charities.
Show times are 4.45pm and 7pm. Booking hotline is (01260) 271145 and tickets are priced from £11.75 to £16.45.
