A FREIGHT train carrying coal has derailed just outside Doncaster Station, rail bosses have confirmed.
The incident happened at 9.30am today when the train came off the tracks at Marshgate while the driver was approaching a goods yard near the station.

The derailment caused disruption to services including those on the East Coast Mainline.

Rachel Lowe, spokesman for Network Rail, said most of the train had been removed but the engine and first two wagons remained at the scene while the Rail Accident Investigation Branch carried out an investigation.

She said: "The front wheels of the locomotive came off the tracks and nobody was injured.

"The East Coast Mainline was reopened by around 11.50am and the intercity line should be getting back to normal.

"There are still a few delays on local services though."

It is not yet known when all services will get back to normal.
