ONE of Doncaster Rovers' favourite sons will be back at the helm when the current team take on the stars of the past in a special match to raise funds for the Belles at the Keepmoat Stadium this Sunday (2.30pm).
Ian Snodin, rated by many as Rovers' greatest player since the days of Peter Doherty and Alick Jeffrey, will take charge of a 'Legends' team that will include former England striker Brian Deane and Francis Tierney - the man whose play-off final golden goal put Doncaster back in the Football League after spending five years in the Conference.
Also in the Legends side will be former top scorer Paul Barnes, big striker Leo Fortune-West, and full back favourites Simon Marples and Tim Ryan.
Dave Morley, who also scored in the 3-2 Conference play-off final victory over Dagenham and Redbridge, is lined up to play and the other scorer from that memorable day Paul Green will be at the game.
Former manager Dave Penney is due to put in an appearance and has attracted the highest bid so far - £120 - in an auction of shirts aimed at raising more cash for the Belles.
Other players due to turn out are John Doolan, Tris Whitman, Robert Gill, Mark Atkins, Jimmy Kelly, Dean Walling, Gareth Owen, Jason Blunt and Neil Roberts.
Also in attendance but not down to play are former goalkeeper Andy Warrington, now with Rotherham, Ricky Ravenhill, Steve Foster and Gregg Blundell.
Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll said all his first team squad would be on duty apart from the injured Brian Stock, Richie Wellens and Gareth Taylor.
Snodin, who brought respectability and credibility back to the club when he returned as manager following the dark days of the Ken Richardson regime, said: "I'm really looking forward to Sunday.
"It should be a great day out for the fans and it's all in a good cause to help the Belles."
