DONCASTER Town talisman Andrew Parkin-Coates is closing in on 1,000 league runs for the season after starring in Saturday's thrilling three wicket win over rivals Rotherham.
Parkin-Coates top scored with 82 against his former club to take his run tally to 955 as his side successfully chased down a target of 242 - although the victory owed as much to some magnificent hitting from Town's tailenders.
When number nine Dominic McGough joined Alex Gosney at the crease the home side still required 56 from the final six overs for victory.
But some intelligent running and fine striking saw Town home with three balls to spare.
Gosney bludgeoned the winning runs after a superb unbeaten 47 from 35 balls, including two sixes, while McGough made a crucial 20.
Wicketkeeper Andrew Chadwick had earlier contributed 32 as Parkin-Coates played the anchor role.
Batting first, third-placed Rotherham laid the foundations for a huge total by reaching 153 for the loss of just one wicket with 17 overs still remaining.
Opener Alex Welsh reached 65 and Yorkshire's Simon Guy made 50, but their departures sparked a disappointing collapse.
Town's young attack managed to restrict the visitors to 241 for nine, as Parkin-Coates also impressed with the ball by claiming 3-39 and Kashif Raza returned figures of 2-59.
Spinners Ashley Knowles and Jonathan Redfern also chipped in with a
wicket each before Town's batsmen blasted them to another impressive win.
Simon Widdup and Tariq Aziz were the last Town batsmen to reach 1,000 Yorkshire League runs in a season - both in 2003.
Town, who remain fourth but have moved to within four points of Rotherham, travel to Sheffield United on Saturday (noon).
