FIVE Doncaster AC athletes helped Yorkshire triumph in the Northern Inter-County competition at Hull.
Becky Holdsworth started with a winning performance in the senior women's 400m hurdles, while Chloe Bradley finished fifth in the Under 17 women's 200m before being edged into third in the 300m.

Pole vaulter Katherine Wilson won the Under 17 women
's event with a jump of 2.90m and also stepped into the long jump event at the last minute - helping Yorkshire gain points by finishing sixth.

Despite twisting a foot on her second attempt triple jumper Sophie Brown still claimed fourth in the Under 17 women's category after a first jump of 10.74m.

Liam Ramsay ran the 100m hurdles in a time of 14.73 - giving him third place in the Under 17 men's - before finishing equal third in the high jump.

It was a remarkable effort by Ramsay, who has only recently returned to athletics after being injured for a year and was asked to represent Yorkshire at late notice due to another athlete pulling out.

The success of the Doncaster athletes helped Yorkshire win the meeting as they accumulated 733.5 points, beating nearest rivals Lancashire and Merseyside.

On the same weekend post-Olympic fever helped swell the attendance when over 300 athletes turned out for the first ever Open meeting staged at the Keepmoat Athletic Stadium.

Hosted jointly by Doncaster AC and Rotherham Harriers AC, athletes from
Under 11s through to seniors competed in a busy programme of track and field events.

The meeting included a couple of rare events that have never been held at the stadium before - so the winners set stadium records.

Doncaster AC duo Jack Houghton (Under 15 boys) and Andy Lilley (Under 17 men) set new stadium records in the 200m hurdles as did Zoe Czelecki (Kingston-upon-Hull) in the Under 15 girls, David Coupe (Rotherham) in the junior men and Dave Robertson (Sheffield University) in the senior
men.

In the one mile event Doncaster's Alan Jepson finished second in the Under 20 men's race.

Top Great Britain athletes Emily Freeman and James Hillier are to visit Doncaster AC to help inspire the club's young athletes to maximise their sporting potential.

The pair, whose visit is part of Sport England's Sporting Champions initiative, will be at the Keepmoat track on Saturday, September 13 between 10am-1pm.

Freeman recently represented GB in the 200m and 4x100m relay in Beijing, while hurdles specialist Hillier won a silver medal for Wales
in the 4x400m relay at the 2002 Commonwealth Games.
