FIREFIGHTER Denny Jodecke has extinguished the hopes of his peers to become a double world champion.
The 32-year-old wrestler, who works at Robin Hood Airport as part of their Rescue and Firefighting Service team, won two gold medals at the recent World Firefighter Games in Liverpool.

He fought his way to both the Freestyle and Greco Roman titles in the senior (30 -39 years) 85kg and under category.

Originally from Germany the Arksey man represented his adopted country at the Games.

The World Firefighters Games was the brainchild of a committee of international firefighters, who organised the inaugural competition in New Zealand in 1990.

It was hailed as a great success and attracted thousands of athletes from all over the world.

Since then it has been held on a biennial basis and over 5,000 firefighters took part in this year's competition.

It featured 75 different sports, including rowing, cycling and basketball as well as the fire truck challenge, stair run and toughest fighter alive.

Denny's double helped England to comfortably top the medal table after they scooped a huge 217 golds - more than four times the amount of second placed France.
