THE future of the Dons is still bright, according to director of rugby Carl Hall, as the club continues to search for a new owner, writes Jonathan Jurejko.
Officials from the newly-promoted club met with Rugby Football League bosses on Monday to discuss how it can move forward in the wake of chairman Craig Harrison standing down and withdrawing his financial support.
Hall insists it is business as us
ual at the Keepmoat with himself, community manager Dave Marshall and secretary Karen Bailey running the club as the RFL consider a business plan put forward by the club.
The New Zealander said: "The purpose of the meeting with the RFL was to look at a few avenues and at which route to go down.
"We are confident we can bring in a new board and move the club forward.
"We put them in the picture with what's going on, what they need to
know and how they can guide us forward.
"Our accountant is in the process of putting together a business plan for the approval of the RFL board.
"The upshot of the meeting was that the three of us will carry on and try and move things forward."
The identity of a proposed five-man board of directors, which Harrison wants to run the club, has not yet been revealed although Hall said it was "more than likely" he would be involved.
And a mystery consortium of businessmen is still said to be interested in backing the board, according to Hall.
On the field eleven of the promotion-winning squad are already signed for next season's National League One campaign including captain Peter Green and half back Kyle Briggs, while loose forward Josh Weeden and prop Nathan Freer have also agreed to extend their time at the club.
Assistant coach Tony Miller is in temporary charge of playing matters after the departure of Ellery Hanley and Hall believes Miller, who had a spell at the helm in 2006, is more than capable of continuing the good work on the pitch.
Hall, who admitted he would fight "tooth and nail" to keep Hanley following the NL2 play-off win against Oldham, said: "I've spoke to Ellery a couple of times since the final but we're confident that Tony is the man to take us forward."
