RECORD breaker Luke Gale will leave the Dons for Super League side Harlequins at the end of the season.
Half back Gale, who broke the club's tries-in-a-season record after scoring his 27th touchdown of the campaign against Hunslet last Sunday, has signed a two-year-deal at the capital club.

But before heading south the 20-year-old's immediate focus is on leading the Dons to promotion in the forthcoming National League Two play-offs.

He said: "Hopefully we can get through against Oldham and then win promotion to NL1 - that would be the perfect end for me.

"Playing at Doncaster has been great - it has really pushed my career on.

"Everyone at the club has been superb - Ellery Hanley, all the staff, the fans and the chairman Craig Harrison as well."

Gale came through the Academy at Leeds Rhinos before joining the Dons on loan last June - days after Harrison and Shane Miller saved the troubled club.

He agreed to stay at the Keepmoat this season and some sparkling displays - which have helped him become NL2's top points scorer - attracted the attention of Harlequins.

The Leeds-born star added: "People ask 'is it a hard decision?'

"But when you think about it it's not because it's the chance to play in the Super League.

"There's only Danny Orr and Luke Dorn who play in my position at Harlequins so hopefully I'll get a chance to show what I can do."

Dons assistant coach Tony Miller said: "Good luck to Luke - he's got an opportunity to play in the Super League and he thoroughly deserves it.

"We've always said if a Super League comes in for one of the young guys we wouldn't stand in their way."

* The Dons travel to Oldham in the play-offs next week and victory will send them straight through to the NL2 Grand Final at Warrington on September 28.
