The car we can all help to buy for brave paratrooper Ben

THE family of Ben Parkinson are gearing up for their son's return home.
And now the Free Press can exclusively reveal the car we hope will drive the injury-ravaged former soldier back to Doncaster.
We have teamed up with F.Cross & Son Kia Ltd, of Doncaster Road in Hatfield, to provide Ben's family with a Kia Sedona people carrier - once our 'Help Brave Ben' fundraising appeal motors to its target with your help.
And the aim is to buy and modify a Sedona to meet the complex needs of the brave 23-year-old who lost both of his legs in an Afghanistan landmine blast.
We just need to raise enough money to do it - and that's where you can step in.
News of the deal delighted Ben's mum Diane Dernie, who has been left to preside over a possible legal battle following a paltry compensation pay out of just £152,150 from the Ministry of Defence.
The award, only slightly more than half the maximum £285,000 currently available to injured military personnel, has left the family facing a very difficult future as they come to terms with the radical overhaul of providing care for Ben for the rest of his life.
"I don't know what to say," said an overjoyed Mrs Dernie, who is starting to plan the necessary renovation of her Wheatley Hills home.
"We have just had a meeting this week with the people from BLESMA (British Limbless Ex-Serviceman's Association] and the first thing they said was the most important thing is to be able to transport him about.
"You just don't realise how difficult it is to get someone into the back of a car. This is fantastic.
"Ben will be over the moon," she added.
"The first thing he'll want is all the books to have a look at and he'll be telling all his friends.
"Cars are Ben's passion in life. He's never been one for Ferrari's and sports cars, he's more interested in Land Rovers, so he'll be absolutely delighted.
"It's a massive upheaval for us but the support people have given is beyond belief.
