WINTER walker Terry Lisle is taking steps towards raising money for injured paratrooper Ben Parkinson by trekking unaccompanied all the way from his Doncasterhome to Catterick Garrison.
The determined 60-year-old, from Dunsville, will set off on the 100-mile journey this morning and expects to reach his destination by Sunday lunchtime - a "stroll in the park" according to the retired builder.

"I saw the appeal and thought it was a really good cause," he said.
"If everybody does their bit it all helps. Hopefully the weather will hold out. I decided to do something and just to go for it," he added.
"Twenty five miles a day - it's a stroll in the park! I've had a lot of support and have already raised over £100.

"Ben needs the money and let's hope this raises awareness of all the other soldiers coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan."

Mr Lisle has distributed sponsorship forms among friends and family, while approximately 200 Catterick-based soldiers have also been given the opportunity to contribute to the fund raising effort.

In the past the keen walker has completed a similar feat alongside friends to raise money for the Sri Lankan tsunami victims - and he will be joined by his grandchildren at a Wheatley Park walk next week.

The Free Press launched the 'Help Brave Ben' appeal earlier this year after the horrific injuries suffered by the 23-year-old former Paratrooper in Afghanistan became public knowledge.

Ben lost both of his legs and is still recovering from more than 30 other serious injuries at a military rehabilitation centre in Surrey.
We want to make things a little easier for his family by raising enough money to donate them a fully modified Kia Sedona people carrier.

n To make a donation to the Benjamin James Parkinson Trust visit the Doncaster branch of Yorkshire Bank on St Sepulchre Gate.

Cheques can be made payable to 'Ben Parkinson' or 'Ben Parkinson Trust'. Cheques can be sent to PO Box 17, 19 St Sepulchre Gate, Doncaster, South Yorkshire, DN1 1SJ.
